OGAM introduced GP services from January 2011. This was in response to patient enquiries, a rapidly expanding local population, and a lack of quality GP services in the area.
The skills of a general physician will always be in demand. General practice is a unique specialty which takes a holistic approach to each individual patient. We take into consideration the patient’s health beliefs, psyche, family / social / and working background, physical symptoms, physical examination, investigations, and other visual cues to arrive at a management plan particular to their needs. No other specialty or allied practitioners take such a holistic and dynamic approach to diagnosis and management. This is what makes general practice so unique and exciting. We, as general practitioners, are privileged to be involved in such a broad–ranged specialty. GP services are offered from Mon - Sat with late evening services on Mon / Tue / Wed / Thur to 7 pm. Consultations are by appointment. We will do our utmost to facilitate walk-in clients. Bulk-billed consultations are available. Medicare and health insurance rebates are processed at OGAM for your convenience.

Aerospace Medicine

What is Aerospace Medicine?

Aerospace Medicine is the medical specialty which is concerned with the interaction between the aviation / space environment and human physiology / psychology and pathologyAt altitude, there are issues resulting from less oxygen availability, pressure effects on body cavities such as the ears and sinuses, ultraviolet and cosmic radiation exposure, travel across time – zones with disturbance of the body’s biological rhythm, the effect of a confined space on psychiatric illnesses etc. Such environmental issues can change a person from being symptom free at ground level to developing symptoms at altitude – especially in conditions such as heart failure, anaemia, asthma, emphysema, ear or sinus congestion, recent surgery etc.

Flight crew safety

All physicians should be aware of any impact on flight safety of medical conditions affecting pilots or air traffic controllers. Such knowledge is of particular importance to Designated Aviation Medical Examiners ( DAME’s ) appointed by CASA. Pilots and air traffic controllers have regular stringent medical examinations to ensure safety in-flight – see table below.

What type of consultations are involved?

We deal with a great variety of aviation medical consultations here at OGAM. Every day, we assess passengers for fitness to fly, we assess passengers who have become unwell during flight, and administer pre-flight anti–thrombosis injections. Every day, we perform aviation medical examinations for pilots and flight controllers, in keeping with CASA’s strict medical requirements, ensuring flight safety is not compromised due to medical reasons.

What are the pilot/flight controllers’ medical examination requirements?
